This is a stressful world that we live in, more so now than ever before. The stress of work, family and just constant overthinking about your problems really takes a toll on your body. The Covid19 Coronavirus quarantine that overtook the whole world really brought to light what stress and anxiety can do to your mental well being as well as your body and physical appearance. (fatigue, weight gain etc)
Lets be honest, we are all overwhelmed and irritable. Your patience is limited, everything/everyone gets on your nerves, if you have to do one more zoom meeting you are going to throw your computer/phone across the room! You fantasize about throwing your husband out the window; actually that's quite common even before covid19.... but I digress.
What are the typical signs of of too much stress and anxiety?
A lot of these symptoms are due to an increase in the hormone cortisol that can have really nasty effects on people.
Uncontrolled cortisol increase leads to:
Too much stress, anxiety and impaired cortisol production is often referred to as "Adrenal Fatigue". Technically Adrenal Fatigue isn't an accepted medical diagnosis. It is a simple term many people use for nonspecific symptoms, such as body aches, fatigue, nervousness, sleep disturbances, weight gain, weight loss and digestive problems.
Whatever the term for what you are going through, millions of people are feeling the same.
Some people use non medical terms like "my adrenals are fried" or "my adrenals are burned out".
What are some ways adrenals get "fried" (for lack of a better word)? We already mentioned; Chronic Stress and Anxiety.
Some causes of the symptoms/issues with adrenals & cortisol production:
Many fitness enthusiasts who run a course of fat burners for a long time often take a break and take and "Adrenal Support Supplement" like ZenQuility before resuming the use if these thermogenics. Anecdotally this has been known to help the effectiveness of the thermogenic fat burners once use is resumed.
Those who have been dieting too long, consuming low calories for too long often hit a stall where they can't lose any more weight no matter how much cardio they do or how low their calories go. This phenomenon is called Adaptive Thermogenesis. Some people call it "starvation mode" but starvation mode is not real thing, adaptive thermogenesis is real.
Low calories and thus subsequent rise in cortisol from the stress of dieting can cause our bodies to hold onto more water. This water retention is masking true fat loss you may be experience because the numbers on the scale don't drop or sometimes go up!
Adaptive Thermogenesis is simply the body’s natural physiological response to reduced calorie intake. Without it, humans would have become extinct thousands of years ago.
How can you combat or "break out of" Adaptive Thermogenesis"? You have 3 options:
1 - Take a diet break; [ yeah right :) ]
2 - Fit in some "refeeds" into your diet (which are often heavily comprised of increased calories & carbohydrates) but lets be honest, most won't do this out of fear of sabotaging their current weight loss progress.
3 - Manage your cortisol, adrenals etc. This is where ZenQuility comes in.
So as you can see, stress, anxiety and impaired cortisol production can wreak havoc on the human body. This is why ZenQuility was created.
What can those who manage anxiety, stress and cortisol reduction expect?
Lets look at the impressive and potent list of high quality ingredients that make up ZenQuility:
Supplement Facts:
Phosphatidylserine:
Phosphatidylserine (PS) is an amazing cortisol optimizing ingredient that has been tested in over 40 human clinical tries over the past 30 years. PS is a naturally occurring phospholipid that’s considered to be an essential nutrient for optimal cell functioning.
Supplementing with PS has been shown to have many positive effects on cognitive function, Alzheimer's disease, stress, anxiety, reduced ADHD symptoms, athletic performance, mobility, depression, sleep quality, bone recovery, depression and mental function.
(PS) is an amazing cortisol optimizing ingredient that has been tested in over 40 human clinical tries over the past 30 years. PS is a naturally occurring phospholipid that’s considered to be an essential nutrient for optimal cell functioning. An addedbonus is that Phosphatidylserine may increase insulin sensitivity by lowering excess cortisol levels.
Ashwagandha extract:
KSM-66 is an ashwagandha extract made by Ixoreal Biomed, created via a process that took 14 years of R&D to develop and refine.
The Most Clinically Studied Ashwagandha on the Market. Ixoreal is the industry leader in clinical trials and basic research investigating the effectiveness of ashwagandha. KSM-66 has been evaluated in 22 “Gold Standard” human clinical trials. Ashwagandha is one of the very few herbs in the world with a complex blend of this type. As ashwagandha operates at the systemic level, it has 20+ distinct applications described in herbal medicine textbooks.
KSM-66 Ashwagandha has been clinically proven to:
Relora®:
Relora® is a proprietary blend of Magnolia officinalis bark extract and Phellodendron amurense bark extract. Relora® is supported by three peer-reviewed, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled publications that demonstrate Relora®'s positive effects on mood state scores and weight maintenance in stress eaters.
As a natural stress management ingredient, Relora is believed to work by controlling stress hormone levels that are responsible for stress-induced overeating and excess abdominal fat. The mechanism of action in Relora appears to function by reducing stress hormone levels as well as levels of perceived stress.
Relora has been showing in clinical settings to promote overall mood states and stress, reduces tension, depression, anger, fatigue confusion and increased vigor.
Human studies have also shown that Relora:
5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan):
5-HTP is the immediate precursor of serotonin. It is readily synthesized into serotonin without biochemical feedback. It is a precursor for the biosynthesis of serotonin and melatonin in the brain from the amino acid tryptophan. People most commonly use 5-HTP to help with depression, anxiety, sleep, food/carbohydrate cravings.
Depression as well as some common side effects of a low carb diet (carb/sugar cravings and insomnia) is thought to caused (at least in part) by having low levels of serotonin in the brain. 5-HTP is readily made into serotonin and why so many low carb and ketogenic dieters supplement with 5-HTP.
The antidepressant effects of 5-HTP are pretty impressive and is comparable to prescription antidepressants such as Prozac. In one study, 5-HTP was compared to Prozac (drug name: fluoxetine) with impressive results. Both treatment groups showed significant and nearly equal reduction in HAM-D scores. This study has shown that 5-HTP has antidepressant effect in patients of depression. Antidepressant effect was seen within 2 weeks of treatment and was apparent in all degrees of depression. The therapeutic efficacy of 5-HTP was considered as equal to that of fluoxetine.
Other studies have shown that 5-HTP decreased anxiety as well as patients with panic attacks found significant relief after taking only 200mg of 5-HTP.
As mentioned above, 5-HTP supplementation is very popular among low-carb and keto dieters. The consumption of carbohydrates increase serotonin levels in the brain and obviously carbohydrate consumption is very low on a ketogenic diet. Supplementing with 5-HTP can help alleviate carbohydrate craving and appetite. In essence it can help dieters adhere to their diet and achieve weight loss.
In other clinical trials, obese women taking 5-HTP resulted in decreased food intake and caused weight loss.
Type II Diabetes
Overweight Type II diabetic patients in a clinical trial who received 5-HTP (and not given any dietary restrictions) reduced their caloric, fat and carbohydrate intake. These subjects also reduced body weight, insulin, blood sugar and HbA1C levels after only 2 weeks of 5-HTP supplementation.
Bacopa Monnieri:
Known as The “Feel Good” Nootropic, Bacopa Monnieri is one of the oldest, most well-known Ayurvedic medicines in existence with its use going as far back as 800 B.C. Bacopa monnieri is an herb native to the wetlands of south India and Australia. Bacopa is used medicinally in the Indian traditional medicine system of Ayurveda. Bacopa increases levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and can also increase serotonin and GABA in the hippocampus.
Bacopa has been extensively used as an adaptogen and herbal remedy used to treat everything ranging from anxiety to depression and even
Bacopa monnieri potential benefits include:
In clinical trials, Bacopa monnieri reduced stress, depression and the stress hormone cortisol.
In a landmark study, bacopa monnieri combined with ginseng was compared to the pharmaceutical nootropic drugs in Modafinil wit the conclusion that bacopa yielded similar cognitive enhancement as the prescription drug.
Lastly, in animal models Bacosine (a compoment of bacopa) may have anti-diabetic effects. In a study, bacosine lowered blood sugar, improved blood sugar control and reduced glycogen stores in the liver.
Rhodiola rosea Root Extract:
Rhodiola rosea also referred to as golden root, arctic root or rose root grows naturally in wild Arctic regions. Rhodiola Rosea is one of the most researched and popular apdaptogenic herbs available with and extensive list of clinical studies shown to support the reduction in stress and anxiety, support positive mood and well being, improve mental focus and clarity, reduce mental and physical fatigue and much much more.
Similar to 5-HTP mentioned above, rhodiola has a positive impact on serotonin levels and appears to increase serotonin levels in the brain and hippocampus.
A popular human study done in subjects aged 18 to 70 found that Rhodiola rosea roots and rhizomes demonstrated anti-depressive activity in patients with mild to moderate depression.
The authors concluded that there was a significant anti-depressive activity in patients suffering from mild to moderate depression, both overall depression levels as well as from specific symptom levels of depression. No adverse effects were detected in either of the groups given the Rhodiola rosea extract.
Another popular study done in over 100 test subjects with life-stress symptoms, 200 mg of rhodiola extract started to produce significant improvements in their stress levels and daily functioning just three days after starting the trial. By 4 weeks and beyond, all patients studied had significant improvements in stress levels.
Another human study of mildly anxious participants showed that rhodiola extract began producing improvements in stress and mood after only 1 week. Relative to the controls, the experimental group demonstrated a significant reduction in self-reported, anxiety, stress, anger, confusion and depression at 14 days and a significant improvements in total mood.
Le-mom Balm Exact:
Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a lemon-scented herb known for its calming and anti-inflammatory effects that has been used for centuries. Some of the common uses of lemon balm is to help manage stress and anxiety, support digestion and promote sleep. Lemon balm increases GABA in the brain which produces a calming effect, reduces stress and improves mood.
Human studies have shown that lemon balm reduces anxiety in patients with stress as well as reduced agitation in people with severe dementia. In addition lemon balm improved insomnia in 85% of people with anxiety disorders and sleep disturbances in a pilot trial.
At the end of the study, the researchers saw a 15% reduction in anxiety-related symptoms, a 42% reduction in insomnia and a 95% improvement in all test subjects taking lemon balm. In addition, 70% of subjects were declared for full remission from anxiety and insomnia. Virtually everyone that participated in the study saw a reduction in their feelings of anxiety, and even started to experience better sleep.
Magnesium Glycinate:
Magnesium Glycinate, is magnesium chelated with the amino acid glycine. Magnesium is the 11th most common mineral in the human body, governs the activity of over 350 enzyme systems, and plays a key role in over 80% of metabolic function.
There are dozens of benefits of magnesium supplementation, too many to list here but the main reason for the inclusion of magnesium in the ZenQuility formula is for its positive effects on fighting anxiety and stress as well as promote relaxation.
This review HERE looked at 18 different studies done on magnesium and anxiety, all of them showed that magnesium reduced anxiety. The review suggests that magnesium helps improve brain function and is one of the reasons magnesium reduces stress and anxiety.
L-theanine:
L-theanine is a unique non-protein amino acid found in green tea (Camellia sinensis) and has been shown to be very effective at promoting relaxation, anxiety reduction and calming the mind all without causing drowsiness. L-theanine not only reduces anxiety but also diminishes the blood-pressure increase in high-stress-response adults. In the fitness and supplement world, L-theanine is commonly found in pre-workout formulas to help reduce the anxiety, rapid heart rate, nervousness, jitters and increased blood pressure that is seen with high doses of caffeine often found in pre-workout type products.
Similar to Rhodiola rosea Root Extract and 5-HTP mentioned above, L-theanine increases brain serotonin as well as dopamine and GABA levels to bring about anti-anxiety and calming effects. Dopamine plays a role in how we feel pleasure. Serotonin contributes to your overall sense of well-being and happiness. GABA is known as an inhibitory neurotransmitter, has calming, anti-anxiety effects and decreases neural activity, which is just what you need before bedtime.
Because of its ability to encourage attention and focus, L-theanine has also been found to improve time to sleep as well as quality of sleep. Instead of acting as a sedative, L-theanine works to promote better rest by reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation. L-theanine produces its anti-anxiety effects without producing sleepiness or impairing motor behavior that is often seen with the use of prescription anti-anxiety drugs.
From 2017 and 2018, 63 newly published studies outlined the effects of L-theanine. According to results of these studies, L-theanine may also help with weight loss in obese individuals, improve elevated lipids and offer neuroprotection and anti-tumor effects.
L-tyrosine:
L-tyrosine is a naturally occurring form of the amino acid tyrosine that the body uses to make proteins, neurotransmitters, and other important compounds. L-Tyrosine supports brain function. L-Tyrosine is also critical for the normal function of the thyroid gland.
Too much stress depletes the hormones norepinephrine and dopamine, L-tyrosine is used to create these powerful catecholamines. L-Tyrosine has been used to support stress reduction and depression by boosting certain neurotransmitters in the brain.
Passion Flower Extract:
Passion flower (passiflora incarnata) is an indigenous American vine. Its medicinal use originated with native Americans. Passion Flower is as a dietary supplement most commonly for anxiety and sleep problems, as well as for pain, heart rhythm problems, menopausal symptoms, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Similar to Rhodiola rosea Root Extract, 5-HTP and l-theanine mentioned above, passion flower increases brain serotonin and GABA levels to bring about anti-anxiety and calming effects.
Hops Extract:
Hops Extract (Humulus lupulus L) is a plant that’s most commonly used for brewing because of its strong aroma but traditionally it has been used as a calming and soothing agent.
Chamomile Flower Extract:
Chamomile extract (matricaria chamomilla), is a herb that’s been used for centuries to help those suffering from insomnia, anxiety, inflammation and muscle spasms.
SUGGESTED USE: As a dietary supplement, take 7 capsules (1 serving) 20-30 minutes prior to a meal or as directed by a healthcare professional. Users may also split up dosages and take 3-4 caps in the morning followed by 3-4 capsules in the late afternoon or evening.
